As a Kansas Woman I have a genuine interest in serving the rural, underserved population of Kansas. I grew up in the Flint Hills of Kansas and attended Council Grove High School. My college years were spent at Kansas State University. I participated in the University of Kansas medical school Summer Mentor Program and was selected for the Scholars Program at the University of Kansas medical school in my sophomore year at K-State. I have wanted to become a doctor since the 4th grade. During the two years that I was involved with the Scholars in Primary Care program my mentor modeled humility, hard work and honor for all individuals, I knew then that a family physician was the specialty I was going to do.

Away from medicine I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband Seth, and our 6 month old son named Connor. We also like attending K-State football games, participating in outdoor activities, reading together and spending time with family and friends.

Kari Clouse, MD
Kari Clouse, MD

Kari grew up on a farm in rural Kansas.  After graduating from Haven High School, she attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas where she met her husband, Michael.  From here, Kari actually went to physical therapy graduate school at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  She graduated in 2004 with her Master’s degree in physical therapy.

Kari and Michael then got married and moved to Wichita where Michael was finishing the physician assistant program at Wichita State University.  During this time, Kari worked as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist.  After much consideration, Kari decided to pursue medicine further and they moved back to Kansas City so that Kari could attend the University of Kansas Medical Center and receive her MD.  She spent her last 18 months in Salina as part of the rural track program.

Since moving here, both she and her husband have loved being part of the Salina community.  Outside of work, they enjoy spending time with their two sons, Andrew and Tucker.  They are currently preparing for some big life changes as they recently found out they are expecting twins!!  Both Kari and Michael love rural family medicine and look forward to life after residency in a small Kansas community.

I don't really know where I'm "from". Born in Arkansas City, moved to Oklahoma when I was two, back to kansas for high school, then BACK to Oklahoma for undergrad and medical school. Because of this, I'm neither a jayhawk, a wildcat, a sooner, nor a cowboy... I like 'em all and will root for whoever is playing at the time!

I just married an amazing guy named Jon in June. He is an officer in the United States Army and currently NOT stationed anywhere near me. We're hoping Uncle Sam takes pity on us and moves him to Ft Riley by the end of the year. I'm looking forward to the places the Army will send us in the future ‑‑ Italy, Germany, Hawaii?? Who knows...

My free time is spent sleeping, shopping, talking w/ my family, and either driving to KC to catch a plane or driving from KC back to salina, just having got off a plane. I'm thankful that I was able to come to Smoky Hill for my residency training. Not only do we have great faculty and a great learning environment, the program encourages keeping family a priority, which helps Jon and I make this long distance thing work!

A lifelong Kansan, I grew up in the small, northeastern Kansas town of Silver Lake. My college years were spent at Kansas State University, where I majored in biochemistry. Besides furthering my love for the Wildcats, I also (and more importantly) met my wonderful wife Stephanie while in college.

After my sophomore year of college, I was accepted into the Scholars in Primary Care Program through the University of Kansas Medical School, and two years later I began my medical school studies. My decision to become a family practice physician was merely a formality, as I've always wanted the breadth of opportunities that primary care offers. Furthermore, I appreciate the way family medicine treats the whole patient and offers the opportunity to establish long‑term relationships with your patients. How many specialties allow you to treat three (or even four) generations of a family?

Outside of medicine, I enjoy running (my wife and I just completed our first half‑marathon in Chicago) and singing. I am also an avid sports fan, following the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and, of course, the Kansas State Wildcats. I would be lying if I said I chose Smoky Hill for residency because of its close proximity to Manhattan, but it certainly is a nice additional perk.
